Join us for a Woodcock Walk, presented by local birding enthusiast Austin Langdon and OSU Extension Educator, Laura Stanton. Sponsored by the City of Lebanon, Miller Ecological Park, and OSU Extension, Warren County.
The American woodcock is a plump, well-camouflaged shorebird that favors wooded areas near open fields, making Miller Ecological Park’s prairie loop an ideal habitat. These ground-dwelling birds are rarely seen during daytime but are well known for their elaborate courtship display performed at dusk in the spring. During this display, these birds fly up in swooping circles, chirping and twittering high in the sky! This is a don’t-miss event for the whole family!
We will start our walk at 6:15 PM in the Miller Ecological Park parking lot (755 Miller Road, Lebanon, OH, 45036). We will walk approximately .5 miles to the back prairie on gravel, grass, and dirt trails. It is typically wet and muddy, so be prepared for wet and/or muddy conditions. Be sure to dress for the weather.
