Join local birding enthusiast, Austin Langdon, and OSU Extension Educator, Laura Stanton, as we search for woodcocks. The Americanwoodcock is a plump, well-camouflaged shorebird that favors wooded areas near open fields, making Miller Ecological Park’s prairie loop an ideal habitat. These ground-dwelling birds are rarely seen duringdaytime but are well known for their elaborate courtship display performed at dusk in the spring. During this display, these birds fly up in swooping circles, chirping and twittering high in the sky! This is a don’t miss event for the whole family! We will start our walk in the Miller Ecological Park parking lot. We will walk approximately .5 miles to the back field on gravel, grass, and dirt trails. It is typically wet and muddy, so be prepared to get messy. Dress for the weather, bring a flashlight or headlamp, and binoculars if you have a pair.
