Are You "In Over Your Head" With Debt?

You may be interested in a new financial management booklet published by OSU Extension. Entitled "In Over Your Head: Life-Saving Srategies for Financial Crisis," it is available at the Warren County Extension office, the home office of one of its co-authors, Kathy Michelich, Extension Educator, Family & Consumer Sciences.

Do you feel overwhelmed by your bills?
Are you getting calls and letters from bill collectors?
Are you using cash advances from your credit cards to pay your bills?
Is your debt level, not including the mortgage payment, over twenty percent of your take home pay?
Is your stress level rising because of personal debt?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions you might be interested in Extension’s new financial management booklet called “In Over Your Head:  Life-Saving Strategies for Financial Crisis.”

The resource is a self directed and easy-to-use manual organized into seven sections:

  1. Assessing your situation and considering options for immediate action.

  2. Dealing with debt and debt collectors.

  3. Designing a personalized, self-directed repayment plan.

  4. Using the services of a credit counseling agency.

  5. Determining the pros and cons of consolidation and other repayment strategies.

  6. Learning about bankruptcy and when it makes sense.

  7. Employing strategies for maintaining control over your finances.

The full-sized booklet, No. 891, is free to download from OSU Extension's publications Website, http://ohioline.osu.edu, under "Home." In addition, printed copies are available to order through OSU Extension's online store, http://estore.osu-extension.org, for $5.25, plus tax and shipping.
