Need Help Identifying an Insect, Plant or Weed?

Follow these procedures when bringing in a sample.

Insect Samples

To prevent infestation in the Extension office, insect samples will only be accepted in a clear glass or hard plastic jar/container with a screw-on or snap-on lid.  Properly contained samples may be left with a completed information form for the educator to identify.  Other types of containers will not be accepted.

Insect Identification Form

Weed & Plant Samples

Since most plants also have insects and some plants can also be poisonous, no weed or plant sample may be left at the office for the educator to identify without first making an appointment.  To set-up an appointment to bring your sample to the office, please contact Extension educator Greg Meyer at (513) 695-1311 or by email at meyer.213@osu.edu.

Pictures of samples may be emailed to Greg, but identification is usually much more difficult.  Samples need to be brought to the office, but a picture is an acceptable first step toward diagnosing your pest or problem.

This service is provided for free by the Ohio State University Extension office in Warren County.
